Administrator, Heart Center - Children's Memorial Hospital - Chicago


About the Position: Implements the planning, operating, and accountability systems that ensure the continuing growth and success of the Heart Center. Works closely with the physician leadership to ensure alignment between the clinical and academic missions of the programs. Ensures the Heart Center operations functions work effectively and provide support to the clinical teams to meet the needs of the Heart Center patients and staff.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Strategic Planning: Leads execution of strategic Plan and facilitates annual update, monitor & track progress on initiatives including development of metrics. Facilitates Heart Center Board Meetings and subcommittees.
  • Operations & Operational Planning: Works with nursing and practice leadership, leads annual budget development and facilitates implementation. Produces and communicates on-going dashboard reporting. Oversees the clinical, educational, research and administrative activities of the division, including division offices, ambulatory nursing, ancillary lab areas and shared responsibility for the CCU.
  • Growth, Outreach, Marketing, New Program Development, Outreach/Marketing : Leads Outreach & Volume Plan development, leads Business Plan development process for new clinical programs and/or services, oversees & facilitates project implementation in conjunction with Practice Plans, Marketing, Physician Services, etc.
  • Advocacy/Fundraising: Partners with the Foundation /Government Relations and hospital leadership teams to prepare plans and facilitate specific project(s). Manages philanthropic funds. Collaborates with the Foundation in preparation and stewardship of philanthropic proposals and awards.
  • Financial Management: Leads the planning and implementation of consolidated hospital and physician revenue and expense tracking system. Coordinates the consolidate Heart Center Service Line hospital operating budget, IS capital budget, and capital equipment budget submission, approval and on-going monitoring. Serves as interface for managed care contracting and patient financial services.
  • Internal/External Reporting: Meets all regulatory, accreditation and reporting requirements for division.
  • Project Management: Leads or provides support for managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects including integration with academic and clinical agendas and planned growth, in addition lead or provide support for institutional initiatives (ie. EMR, New Hospital Planning, etc.).
  • Serves as Administrator-on-Call for institutional nights/weekend coverage in a rotating schedule.

Requirements:

  • Masters degree, with a concentration in health care administration or business required.
  • 5-10 years of health care management required, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Cardiovascular clinical or administrative experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure the provision of quality patient care in a dynamic and fiscally challenging environment.
  • Experience in strategic thinking, market segmentation, competitor positioning and external market assessment.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in growing a business or product line by increasing market share and improving profitability.
  • Strong facilitation skills, including meeting management and large group facilitation.
  • High quality written and effective oral communication skills including ability to present, craft content for business plans.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide leadership to others in a collaborative and facilitative style within a matrix reporting structure as well as a complex organizational setting. Comfortable working with faculty, directors, and other senior leadership.
  • Regular local travel to satellite and outreach locations.
