Service Line Administrator, Hematology/Oncology
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta
Scope And Responsibilities:
This position will serve as the primary administrative partner to Dr. Woods, Hematology/Oncology Chief of Staff. The Service Line Administrator will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations, as one of twelve Service Line Administrators in the Children's system. This position will share accountability with Dr. Woods for the Hem/Onc service line as a whole. With a host of seasoned professionals already in place,. The selected individual will inherit a strong and well-functioning team of clinical, financial and project managers.
General Expectations for this Role:
• Overall strategic, business and clinical management of the service line.
• Translate overall system goals/strategies into service line priorities.
• Manage the team members who deliver the day to day clinical and business operations.
• Drive consistency and system approach across all three facilities through setting/monitoring the right system standards, processes and measures.
• Ensure all clinical areas are staffed appropriately.
• Maintain compliance and regulatory issues across facilities.
• Develop/execute quality improvement projects using appropriate resources and analytics/ measures.
• Deliver targeted results in the following five key performance areas:
- Strong financial results (contribution margin, grants, and fundraising)
- Excellence on quality care measures.
- Outstanding customer satisfaction and patient experience scores.
- Achievement of targeted growth/volumes.
- Oversight and improvement of employee performance, engagement and retention.
Specific Responsibilities include:
• Business development, including marketing, public relations, outreach, and service expansion opportunities
• Short and long-term financial planning, including fundraising plans and allocation of strategic funds, business plans/proformas, and operating budgets
• Key contact for strategic and business planning issues including collaboration with key senior leaders in the organization
• Monitoring and reporting annual and long-term goals/critical success factors for service line.
• Financial accountability for the entire service line.
• Setting the research and training agenda, in partnership with the Hem/Onc Chief of Staff and Children's Chief Research Officer.
• Developing the case for support and working with the Foundation toward continued fundraising.
Experience / Skills Required:
A successful candidate must have the following skills, aptitude, and experience:
• Strategic planning and business development
• Clinical operations (either inpatient hospital or ambulatory)
• Budget development and fiscal accountability for major service or department(s)
• Financial analysis and planning
• Fundraising and stewardship
• Project management and team facilitation
• Staff development and physician relations
• Problem-solving and conflict resolution
• Team/partnership orientation
Professional experience in the one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred (in descending order of importance):
• Pediatric healthcare system
• Service line oversight and leadership
• Hematology/Oncology/BMT
• Academic healthcare model, including basic and clinical research and teaching
A minimum of five or more years of mid to senior management experience is required. It is essential that all candidates have strategic, operational, and financial exposure in a highly matrixed organization and be flexible with multiple reporting relationships. Clinical background and exposure will be given preferred status along with a proven, team oriented leadership approach.
A solid career track with increasingly progressive roles is important, but documented and measurable accomplishments in the following will be essential:
• Growing and expanding upon an already successful product line, putting a positive thumbprint on the culture while helping move the service to its next evolution.
• Ability to create and establish strategy and guide the philosophy and scope for the service line.
• Ability to leverage, build and align medical and administrative staff as a team to make all as productive, cohesive and personally successful as possible.
• Cultivate relationships across the organization at large and within the local and national healthcare community.
• Strong analysis and management skills to create, evaluate, build and present complex business models and manage all financially from front end to back end.
• Equally strong in providing big picture financial direction as well as provide oversight for all revenue stream, billing/collections enhancement and expense containment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with supervisor, peers and subordinates to gain buy in and identify best practice approaches.
• Able to envision and execute on all steps necessary to create a preeminent pediatric, full service, oncology practice from diagnosis to treatment to survivorship.
Education:
A bachelor's degree is required, with an MBA or MHA strongly preferred because a high degree of business acumen is essential to the success of the chosen individual.
